We are admonished not to engage in activites that begin and end in mere words. And as programming is an activity which does begin with the words of a programming language and may end with the words of documentation, it must fall to other criteria as to whether that is the sum total of the activity.
Usefulness, contributing to an ever-advancing civilization is one way. My activities here aspire to this approach by being availble to others and expressed through the company I work for.
